Avanti Air: Redefining Bluetooth Headphones

Anthony Chen's Award-Winning Design Combines Minimalist Aesthetics with Advanced Technology

Anthony Chen's Avanti Air, a Bluetooth on-ear headphone, is a perfect blend of minimalist aesthetics, luxurious retro styling, and cutting-edge technology. Inspired by the increasing need for portable and comfortable audio equipment, this design has won the prestigious Golden A' Digital and Electronic Device Design Award in 2019.

Avanti Air stands out in the market with its unique properties. It is not just a stylish accessory but also a durable and portable device. The headphone delivers high fidelity sound using a bio cellulose diaphragm and boasts an impressive playtime of over 27 hours. It can also provide a 4-hour boost with just 15 minutes of charging. The design incorporates a sophisticated stainless steel headband and soft leatherette ear cups for long-lasting comfort. The headphones can be easily folded and stored in a compact carrying case, making them perfect for travel.

The realization of this design required meticulous attention to detail and precision. The stainless steel curved headband, for instance, had to be accurately bent twice to ensure ergonomic comfort. The foldable hinge, made of stainless steel, is connected to the headband through laser welding, making it capable of resisting a 15kgf.cm torsion. The ear cups are made from selected vegan leather, offering a sleek and tender touch, while also providing better sustainability from hydrolysis.

Avanti Air is equipped with Bluetooth 4.2 and high-resolution 40mm neodymium drivers. It offers up to 27 hours of talk or music time at 50% volume and can be fully charged in 2.5 hours using a USB-C port. The headphones weigh a mere 250 grams and measure 20 x 18 x 5.5 cm. The design also includes three buttons on the headpiece for controlling play, pause, tracks, volume, and answering or ending calls. One of these buttons can also activate Google Assistant and Siri.

Anthony Chen's design process was rooted in extensive research. The headphone's ergonomic design was based on U.S. military anthropometric research (DOD-HDBK-743A). The headband size and adjustable size were designed to match various human heads. The ear cup's fixed 14-degree rotation degree can perfectly cover most of the ear pinna and attach to various ear shapes to block noise. This balance creates a perfect seal to block environmental noise, allowing users to enjoy their music in a comfortable and tranquil way.

Avanti Air is a testament to Chen's commitment to combining high-grade material, durability, and excellent wearing comfort. They can be folded into a compact case for easy carrying and are equipped with a long playtime battery that supports fast charging. Avanti Air also supports a smartphone APP to adjust EQ and share music wirelessly with friends, making them stand out from the others.
